Dalslands Canal
is about 250 km in length, though only about 10 km is an excavated canal. Dalslands Canal consists of 31 locks rising through a total height of 67 metres. It is reknowned for its aqueduct in Håverud.
Strömsholms Canal
is a 110 km waterway in Sweden which stretches from Smedjebacken in the north to Strömsholm in the south, passing an incredible 14 lakes. Although only 12 km is canalised, there are a total of 26 locks rising through a height difference of 100 metres. The locks are therefore relatively high and they demonstrate the greatest lifting height found in Sweden. The Strömsholms Canal was completed in 1795 and is Sweden’s second oldest canal.
Göta Canal
is also known as "The Blue Ribbon of Sweden" and is one of the most ambitious building projects ever to have been completed in Sweden. The canal stretches 190 km through a total of 58 locks, from Sjötorp on Lake Vänern to Mem on the inlet of Slätbaken. Some 87 kilometres are canalised waterways and 103 kilometres of the total length of the canal comprises small lakes.
Kinda kanal
has Sweden’s deepest locks. The Kinda Canal has 15 locks in all, rising through a height difference of 50 metres. It stretches from Linköping on Lake Roxen to the forest villages of Östergötland. The canal was completed in 1872 and was regularly used for commercial shipping until the mid 20th Century. Recently the canal and its locks have undergone considerable restoration.
